I received a Sony PRS300 as a Christmas present. After researching it a little, the major complaint that people had was that the screen could be broken. Since I wanted to be able to the throw it in a backpack and go, I looked for a safe case for my Reader. I purchased this BookArmor case on January 3, 2010. It arrived quickly and I immediately began to use it. I was laid up from surgery for about a month but still used the case to protect my Reader from kids, cats, dogs, and life in general. After I went back to work, I used the Reader every day. In mid-March the zipper tab simply fell off. I used it for a week or so without anything on the zipper. This stunk, so I put a key chain ring through the zipper. This worked for about a month. Now the metal on the zipper that makes the loop for items to tie things to has broken. The only way I can zip this case shut is to push the zipper with my finger. This case fits the Readers snugly (which is good), but it makes it difficult to zip closed around tight corners with only your fingers.
Others have noted that the fabric used on these cases does not stand up to wear. The case seems to be made from formed hard plastic. On the inside cover, fabric has been glued to this hard plastic. Well the fabric peels back with use. Also the side of the case that the Reader attaches to is almost like the hard velco spines. The whole top and bottom is covered with these hard spines. There is no way that you could attach the Reader way over on the edge so there is no reason for these spines all the way across. These spines manage to catch hair, dirt, crumbs, etc. very easily. I have yet found an easy way to clean them. I have actually sat down with a tweazers to do it. The other thing about these spines is that if you sit there and hold your Reader to read, you have to find a hand position that misses the spines.
The case is great in that it protects your Reader. The hard plastic is wonderful. The inside cover that faces the Reader's screen has a pad on it. I just wish that some of the other features of the case stood up to use. I am going to have to start using a rubber band to keep my case closed - not real classy. I feel that for $40 you should get an item that can stand up to daily use for quite awhile. Mine has begun to fall apart in less than 4 months. However, it is still better than having a broken screen on your Reader.
