(More customer reviews)I shopped a long time before getting this ereader. I was very familiar with reading books electronically because I've had a Palm Pilot for over 10 years. I choose the Sony because I can get books from my local library for free - which is a plus. In the first month with the device, I saved $75 by borrowing books I was only going to read once.
Pros - I love the touch version. It's convenient to turn pages by swiping my thumb over the face of the device.
The screen is large - bigger than the Kindle because there's no keyboard. If I need a keyboard, such as when I'm entering text, one pops up, but screen space isn't reserved for a keyboard 24/7. That's good.
I can read in daylight.
It's nice to be able to adjust the text. Some books have very small text and having the option is a plus.
Of course, the bookmark, highlight and note features are convenient.
The reading light is nice, but I wasn't impressed with it. The arm doesn't always stay where you put it. And the screen has a bit of a glare - due to the touch screen - which the light enhances. But, if I get the light at the right angle, it's a real asset. It's good for reading in bed or on a dark train or plane.
The wireless feature is nice. I haven't subscribed to any mags or papers yet, but I have shopped for books and knowing that I can get a new book immediately is great. I'll probably get a magazine at some point - there's just none I want right now.
The battery life is great. Unlike the color Nook, the battery on the Sony really does last 2 weeks with the wireless off. And having an extra battery to carry on trips will be a benefit.
Cons - the touch screen does have a glare, but it's easy to position where that's not a major problem. The wireless can be slow, but hey - it's remote access - all of life is a trade off. The Daily Edition is a little larger, but the size becomes a plus when you consider the large reading area.
All around, I'm thrilled with my choice. I'm baffled as to why Sony doesn't advertise more. This Daily Edition is top rated by Consumer Reports - and yet you don't hear about the Sony Daily Edition very much.
Going back a couple of months would I purchase this same unit again?
