This card reader/USB2.0 hub looked good on paper, but it did not live up to it's description.
One of the main reasons I chose it was that it listed XD memory as a supported card type, but when I received it it had no slot for XD. I need Compact Flash and XD, so right away I knew this was not the product for me.
However, I already had the package open so I figured I'd try it out to see how it worked.
The USB and power cables are very short, and the mini-USB connector on the unit keeps you from using a different USB cable, unless you go out an buy a special standard USB-A to mini-USB cable. I wanted to put it on top of my desk and the CPU is under the desk, so without a 3rd party cable and extension cord I was out of luck.
The final straw is that the product does not work as advertised. I plugged it into a PC and got two new removable drives in My Computer, but when I plugged a Kingston thumb drive into one of the USB connectors it was not recognized.
Not only that, as long as the Aluratek AUHR200 was plugged into a USB port on my XP Pro SP2 PC the Kingston drive was not recognized on *any* USB port. I had to go into Device Manager and uninstall both the AUHR200 and the thumb drive, disconnect both, then reconnect the thumb drive before it was recognized.
There is no documentation other than what's printed on the outside of the package. The included mini CD has a RAR file in the root directory and a subdirectory with a Win 9x driver in it. I could probably have figured out how to read the RAR file, but by that time I didn't care.
The Aluratek website was no help. No manuals, no drivers, only a duplicate of the information printed on the package.
As I say, don't waste your time or money on this product.
