The surface gives just enough grip so the fear of dropping the kindle is lessened but it's not tacky so dust and dirt don't cling to it. When I'm on the go, I use this with a Timbuk2 Nylon Kindle Sleeve (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle) Black/Black/Black. It fits in just perfectly.
