(More customer reviews)I've been researching and comparing e-readers for a year now and, at least for the present, I've thrown my lot in with the folks at Pocketbook. Their latest reader, the IQ - 701 is really an excellent value.
It comes in three colors: white, red, and blue. I chose the red. This device almost falls into the tablet category. It uses the Android operating system and the processor runs at a respectable 800Mhz. It has 2G of internal memory and it has an external SD slot that will accept up to a 32G SD chip. It has an easy-to-setup Wi-Fi.
I've loaded numerous apps, including apps to download most of the commonly used book formats such as Kindle for Android, Nook (and Borders) for Android, epub, pdf, etc. etc. Presently I'm using only an 8G SD chip (it's what I had laying around) and I've got 957 ebooks loaded onboard with room for many, many more.
The IQ has tiny stereo speakers on the lower edge, but what I do is plug a cable (available at Radio Shack) into the headphone jack on the IQ and then plug the other end into my input jack on my car stereo. I download audio books from my local library for free and then play them through my car speakers. It makes those commute miles melt away...
The book is ruggedly constructed with a metal case--NOT plastic, and it comes with a TWO YEAR factory warranty!
I paid $159 and free shipping for mine. However, my wife has pretty much commandeered my IQ, so I just bought another IQ today. It makes a nice Christmas present, and I get MY book back!
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this reader.
