(More customer reviews)I bought myself one for Christmas, and I love it.
The good: The screen is backlit, allowing me to read at night. I have not tried to read in sunlight. I have had no problems with eyestrain at all. Because it is an LCD screen (like your computer), there is no annoying flicker when the pages turn, like in an ereader with e-ink. *That* gave me a headache. It holds (supposedly) about 5000 books. The page turn is not zippy but no problem at all - I would say about a second or less. The epub format is wonderful, and there are plenty of places to buy books in this format. Sometimes I forget I am not reading a paper book, and try to turn the page. It is not touch screen - there are buttons on one side to turn pages forward or back. The bookmarks work, the last read feature takes you right back where you left off. If you wish to read several books, you can save your place with a bookmark. I read on and off during the day - I would estimate a seven hour battery life. I just recharge each night. When my library offers ebooks, I fully expect to be able to read my library books on this device.
By the way, the screen will orient in all four directions. I don't particularly like this feature so I disable that feature using the menu options. The bad: PDFs are difficult to read. The reflow is not good for them at all - they always reflow a little wider than the screen. There are no folders, which makes it difficult to organize your books, and tedious to advance through your books to get to the one that you wanted. Borders was the vendor for this device, and now, of course, they are in bankruptcy.
I gave it four stars because of the lack of folders, otherwise I would have given it 5.
