(More customer reviews)Being a student, I was looking for something not too large, I didn't want an eReader broken in the backpack due to tweeking or twisting, but I wanted it large enough to read without constantly moving the document around on the screen like you have to on a smart phone.
I did a lot of research for an eReader and settled on the Sony PRS600. I don't regret the make of the reader as it suits the needs of a student very nicely. I only wish I'd had the money for the PRS900 Daily edition, I think it's a slightly better unit and the overall design of Sony's readers are solid.
Anyway, after putting the money into the reader, I wanted something that would protect my investment.
I've done roughly the same amount of research finding the protector for my reader and have settled with the M-Edge Latitude Jacket. I didn't care for the Leisure Jacket as it didn't protect the screen as I wanted when the reader is in the backpack. Other items I have researched either required the reader be pulled out when in use, or simply didn't protect the reader well enough for my investment.
The Latitude has a soft, plush type interior lining which is excellent for the protection of the screen when rubbing against other items in the backpack. It has four durable, sewn-in ... holders?, one in each corner to hold the reader. These are large enough and durable enough to hold the reader nicely, without worrying about losing the reader because of floppyness or weak holders.
The zippers (there's two) will roll around the edges to allow full open flexibility so you can leave the reader in the case when using it.
I've had comments that it appeared I was reading a regular book in a cover, or that I was reading a CD case or CD holder. They were impressed when they discovered it was an eReader.
The reasons I gave it four stars instead of five are these:
There is a pocket on the front cover with a zipper. Nice for small items like an SD card or Sony's memory stick. But nothing more, it's simply too tight. It is suggested by the makers of the M-Edge that you can put your sync cable in it, but I wouldn't trust it, it's too tight and may damage the screen of the reader by mere pressure.
There are two open pockets on the back cover, one is designed I believe for a light. A mounting pocket I presume. The other is larger in size, but still very tight for anything thicker than my student ID. I had a hard time even putting a pencil in it.
My wish list:
First, I wish the 'holder' in the upper right corner that holds the eReader was a little bit bigger than the others. It is rather difficult to get the stylus of the Sony eReader out of its holster with the current configuration of this holder.
Second, I wish there was a finger loop on the outside spine of this case. I find the excellent material it is made of can be rather slippery at times and when it is open to read, there's nothing to hold unless you wrap your fingers around the bottom or the top. Perhaps I am just use to the large textbooks that lay heavily open in the palms of your hands. But it would still be nice to have something to put a couple fingers through for that extra sense of security in holding such an expesive book.
Overall: A touch pricy perhaps (for my budget anyway), but well worth the security of protecting my eReader. The material is durable and I know it's going to last the life of my reader as I use it constantly in my classes.
