(More customer reviews)UPDATE: I've not been using my case for about a week. I've taken my Kindle to the beach twice with no issues. I'm pretty sure this case saved my Kindle at one point. I left my Kindle lying on the couch at one point when I got up from reading and my dog (~60lbs) jumped right on top of it with claws and all. What surely would have messed up the Kindle screen only very lightly scratched the case (not even noticeable when reading). This case won't be leaving my Kindle anytime soon.
I got my case this morning and I've been using my Kindle with it on periodically throughout the day.
Here are my thoughts so far
Pros:
- Kindle seems very very protected
-- I wouldn't hesitate to take the Kindle to the beach (which I will do tomorrow) or the pool with this
- Pretty light. This case doesn't add very much weight for the level of protection you get
- Screen protector area doesn't glare as bad as some other cases I've seen (although there of course is some glare when a light source is directly on it)
- Relatively easy assembly for such a well sealed case. Takes me less than 2 minutes to get completely on or off.
- There is also a nice little free cloth sleeve included which gives you an extra little bit of protection when traveling. Nice bonus.
Cons:
- As mentioned by others I had trouble getting the little jewel on the joystick where it could move left. I had to put it on and take it off several times before I got into just such a position that barely allows for moving the joystick to the left. *UPDATE - Klear Kase customer service was great about contacting me ASAP and getting me some replacement jewels which do seem to fit a bit better. Great customer service on this issue.
- Quite a few parts. I know this is needed to get a good seal on the case, but if you take the case off and don't reassemble it, I imagine it would be quite easy to lose a piece.
Tips:
- If you have pets make sure you assemble this thing away from any sort of pet hair/lint/etc since the plastic is new little hairs and the like are drawn to it like crazy.
- If you can't move your joystick left, try putting the jewel back on, with less force than before. It seems that it's possible to push the jewel down too far.
I'll update the review after I use it for a little while, but I'm satisfied as using this for a summer case for my Kindle when I might be putting it into harsher conditions.
UPDATE 7/16:
I received some updated jewels from Klear Kase which were sent via FedEx to me free of charge. These do seem to fit better. The creaking noise is pretty much 100% gone from the case as of now and I'm totally used to having it on there. I took it off the other day to apply the new jewel and I felt like my Kindle was so fragile holding it without the case on. I consider this case a keeper, and I'm upping my review to 5 starts, mainly for the great customer service.
UPDATE 7/12:
Well after a few days using this case the creaking has indeed started to go away and is no longer an issue for me. Shortly after writing my review I was contacted by KlearKase customer service who has offered to over night a new set of the joystick jewels which should hopefully have a better fit. Given the fact that the creaking issue has gone away and the good CS offered by the company I have raised my rating to 4 stars.
