This is a nice elegantly simple folio style cover that the PRS-650 clips into that helps make it feel much, much, much, more like a real book.
My friends have PRS-650's with the official Sony covers (both with and without the built in book light), so I have had a chance to compare them with this cover.
In comparing the official Sony Product to the Proporta product, I have to give a slight edge to Sony on the quality of materials and styling. For example, the Sony product uses a fancy two tone combination of real leather and synthetic materials in the cover, and the clip which secures the reader to the cover seems to be metal vs. a tough nylon like plastic on the Proporta Cover.
Differences in materials not withstanding, with reasonable care both the Proporta and Sony covers look like they should give years of service. The hard surfaced leather of the Sony covers might stand up a little better against tears and gouges, but the Proporta cover looks like the kind of super tough synthetic leatherette that is used for long wearing furniture and car upholstery, so it should shrug off most minor scrapes really well. The Sony's metal PRS-650 attachment clip seems a little more secure, but my reader with the Proporta cover has already taken a few minor bounces and the Proporta's tough plastic clip has always held secure, so I can't complain.
The Proporta cover itself is feather light, but to give additional protection for the PRS-650, it has a lightweight but stiff inner core inside both the front and back covers. This along with the soft outer padding to improve comfort, makes it feel like you have a small finely bound soft padded leather volume in your hand,
Proporta says this cover is made of "finest quality faux leather", and as synthetic leatherette materials go, it does indeed look and feel really nice. With the increased sensitivities that many feel these days, the fact that no animal products were used in the Proporta Cover may actually be a big plus for some folks.
One minor area where the Proporta case does loose a point or two to the official Sony cases is that the Sony products seem to have small embedded rare-earth magnets to help them stay closed when not in use, where the Proporta cover lacks any type of clasp or closure (magnetic or otherwise).
The lack of a closure or clasp isn't a major issue for me. Most real books don't have clasps either, and I've never had problems with them flopping open and getting damaged. I do like a little more security when packing for travel, so for that I use a low cost zip-up neoprene sleeve that I purchased separately here on Amazon some time ago which nicely fits the PRS-650 with the Proporta cover in place. By way of comparison, if I had purchased the Sony cover, its' magnets aren't really strong enough to guarantee that the cover will not jar open during travel if the reader is bouncing around in your bag, so I would still use a secondary sleeve case either way.
To be honest, if this case and the Sony product were the same price, it would have been a much tougher choice. On the one hand, I really like the soft padded construction of this case because it makes the reader much nicer to hold during long reading sessions, but on the other hand, the Sony product did have some features that I really liked (For example, the metal mounting clip that holds the PRS-650 on the Sony cover seemed like it would be a bit more secure and durable than the plastic clip that does the same job on the Proporta cover).
As it is, I am very very happy with my purchase. The case has held up well, the padded construction does indeed make it a joy to use, and I was able to save about 10 dollars buying this case over the equivalent Sony product.

A stylish case for the Sony Reader Touch PRS650. The protective cover is made from a hard wearing, leather style material with contrast stitching. The Sony PRS 650 fits perfectly and is held in place using a plastic bracket which runs along the spine.
